A few weekends ago we took a short weekend trip to the city by the bay. Beautifully energetic San Francisco had a lot of places for us to explore. It is teeming with foodie hot spots, gorgeous architecture, and fascinating people. Here are some of our favorite things to do while in the city.
- Union Square
The shops in San Francisco are amazing enough due to the limited real estate. Everyone builds up, so they are almost all over five stories tall. You can also find adorable flower stands on almost every corner bursting with fresh blooms.
- Afternoon Tea
Afternoon tea is our favorite meal. We should really be living in England due to our obsession over it. Our favorite places include The Fairmont, The Palace, and The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus. The Fairmont’s scones simply melt in your mouth. The Palace is a place to visit for the beautiful architecture and glass ceiling alone. The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus is equally as beautiful with their curved floor to ceiling windows. They have one of the best teapots for tea by Dammann. We’ll have to share our favorite afternoon tea ensembles with you just in case you decide to stop by one day.
3. The Ferry Building
A little background on us, half of our family is from Boston. The Ferry Building always reminds us of one of our favorite stops on the east coast, Faneuil Hall. The Ferry Building houses ferries but is also a darling marketplace. It is always bustling on the weekends. We love the old meets new design of the whole place. They even have the old clicker flipboard for ferry times! When you visit make sure you stop by:
- Miette – most amazing sweet treats located in a charming pastel shop.
- Cowgirl Creamery – A shop entirely dedicated to the craft of cheese (Sarah happens to be quite the cheese connsoiseuer). So she was head over heels when she saw a wheel of cheese being melted and spread all over crunchy country bread. Oh how we love you grilled cheese.
- Book Passage– We are very nerdy girls who love to read. We’re always popping in quaint bookstores to find our next book for book club. This store gives you the careful curator’s opinion! So you don’t have to go searching for reviews.
Oh the seafood of San Fran! This isn’t Sarah’s favorite part, but she already had her grilled cheese. If you walk up the piers to fisherman’s warf you can find all kinds of yummy places full of freshly prepared lobster and crab. A little further down is my favorite place for Fish n Chips, Codmothers. It is such a great deal and they have fried oreos for dessert! Fried oreos are a must, if you still have room after the perfectly fried cod and stinky (parmesean and garlic) fries.
5. Mr. Holmes Bakehouse
Sarah and I wake up early for this one, so Mr. Holmes must be something special. This is the perfect place to continue our quest for the perfect carb. If you are willing to wait in line, true happiness can be found in baked form. Salted caramel filled donuts, apple cinnamon scones, and gigantic crossiants make us wish they air shipped. If you are lucky enough to secure a little pink sticker, you found the cruffin golden ticket. There is not enough supply for the demand of these yummy little guys. Just grab a hot tea and join the line, you’ll thank us later.
There truly are some great stops in this eccentric little city. Our list would be way too long if we kept listing all our favorite finds. So let’s just call this part one♥
